When the tunnel in time-space closes, the teleportee finds footfall in the location where the tunnel closes, either in real time or in the past or future.
5. The chronovisor was accidentally discovered by Vatican musicologists Father Pellegrino Ernetti and Father Augustino Gemelli when they were studying the harmonic patterns in Gregorian chants at the Catholic University of Milan in the 1940’s.
Ernetti and Gemelli found that the microphone they were developing could pick up the sounds of past events. It uses holograms that are so dense that they have the effect of lensing non-local events into the laboratory which the time traveler can visit and explore while standing in the hologram.
The advanced chronovisor was developed from a TV-like screen into a standing cubical hologram of moving, multi-colored light by US defense contractors under DARPA after the Vatican gave the chronovisor technology to the US government for further development.
6. The stargate is a Tesla teleporter that so concentrates the radiant energy that it derives from the quantum hologram that it can send the teleportee vast distances in time-space.
Once inside the vortal tunnnel, the teleportee can see that the tunnel is identical to the tunnel walls of bluish-white holographic light produced by the Tesla teleporter, but since greater distances in time-space can be reached by the stargate, the teleportee spends more time in the tunnel and so has a greater risk of asphyxiation. 7. The plasma confinement chamber was invented by Dr. Stirling Colgate, president of the New Mexico Institute of Science and Technology [NMIST] and a physicist at the Los Alamos National Laboratories [LANL].
It uses radioactive plasma to propagate a wormhole which the time traveler travels in order to be embedded temporarily in a past event.

„Hitting the Reset Button on Aging Cells
Today, we chronicle the progress of OSKM and discuss how this powerful treatment may be able to reprogram cells back into a youthful state, at least partially reversing the hallmark of epigenetic alterations and other hallmarks as well.
The birth of cellular reprogramming
In 2006, a study by Drs. Takahashi and Yamanaka showed that it was possible to reprogram cells using just four master genes named oct4, sox2, klf4, and c-myc, or OSKM for short [1]. Prior to this, it was assumed that egg cells (oocytes) would contain a complex array of factors needed to reprogram a somatic cell into becoming an embryonic cell. After all, the feat of transforming an aged egg cell and reprogramming it to make a new animal must be controlled by many factors present in the egg cell, or so they thought.
Takahashi and Yamanaka turned this idea upside down when they showed that just four factors were needed to achieve this transformation using OSKM to reprogram adult mouse fibroblasts (connective tissue cells) back to an embryonic state called pluripotency, a state where the cell behaves like an embryonic stem cell and can become any other cell type in the body.
This discovery paved the way for research into how these programming factors might be used for cellular rejuvenation and a potential way to combat age-related diseases.
Cellular and animal rejuvenation
In 2011, a team of French researchers, including Jean-Marc Lemaitre, first reported cellular rejuvenation using OSKM. During their life, cells express different patterns of genes, and those patterns are unique to each phase in a cell’s life from young to old; this gene expression profile makes it easy to identify an old or young cell. At the time, it was also known that aged cells such as fibroblasts have short telomeres and dysfunctional mitochondria, two of the nine proposed hallmarks of aging.
Jean-Marc Lemaitre and his colleagues tested the effects of OSKM on aged fibroblasts from normal old people and also from healthy people over 100 years old. They added two additional pluripotency genetic factors to the OSKM mix, namely NANOG and LIN28, and examined the effect that this had on the gene expression, telomeres, and mitochondria of these older people.
They discovered that together, the six factors were able to rapidly reprogram these cells from old donors back into a pluripotent state; these were to be known as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The researchers noted that the cells had a higher growth rate than the aged cells they had been reprogrammed from; they also had longer telomeres as well as mitochondria that behaved in a youthful manner and were no longer dysfunctional.
The final step for the researchers was to then guide the iPSCs to become fibroblasts again using other reprogramming factors. These fibroblasts no longer expressed the gene patterns typically associated with aged cells of this kind but instead had a gene expression profile indistinguishable from those of young fibroblasts. In addition to this, they also showed that telomere length, mitochondrial function, and oxidative stress levels had all reset to those typically observed in young fibroblasts.
This was the first evidence that aged cells, even from very old individuals, could be rejuvenated, and this was followed by a flood of independent studies confirming these findings in the same and other types of cells.
Could this be done in living animals?
While it had been demonstrated that aged cells could be rejuvenated in a petri dish in the lab, many researchers considered translating this to living animals to be impossible, as the continuous expression of OSKM was known to induce cancer in animals . This was to change in December 2016.
Professor Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte and his team of researchers at the Salk Institute reported the conclusion of their study, which showed for the first time that the cells and organs of a living animal could be rejuvenated. The researchers made this short video to explain this huge breakthrough in aging research.
For the study, the researchers used a specially engineered progeric mouse designed to age more rapidly than normal as well as an engineered normally aging mouse strain. Both types of mice were engineered to express OSKM when they came into contact with the antibiotic doxycycline, which was given to them via their drinking water. They allowed the OSKM genes to be expressed by including doxycycline in the water for two days then removed it so that the OSKM genes were silenced again. The mice then had a five-day rest period before another two days of exposure to doxycycline; this cycle was repeated for the duration of the study.
After just six weeks of this treatment, which steadily reprogrammed the cells of the mice, the researchers noticed improvements in their appearance, including reduced age-related spinal curvature. Some of the mice from both experiment and control groups were also euthanized at this point so that their skin, kidneys, stomachs, and spleens could be examined. The control mice showed a range of age-related changes compared to the treated mice, which had a number of aging signs halted or even reversed, including some epigenetic alterations. The treated mice also experienced a 50% increase in their mean survival time in comparison to untreated progeric control mice. It should be noted that not all aging signs were affected by partial reprogramming, and if treatment was halted, the aging signs returned.
Perhaps most importantly, while the partial reprogramming conducted in this periodic manner reset some epigenetic aging signs, it did not reset cell differentiation, which would cause the cell to revert to an embryonic state and forget what kind of cell it previously was; as you can imagine, this would be a bad thing in a living animal.
Finally, not only did OSKM expression at least partially rejuvenate cells and organs in progeric mice, but it also appeared to improve tissue regeneration in the engineered 12-month-old normally aging mouse group. The researchers observed that the partial reprogramming improved these mice’s ability to regenerate tissue in the pancreas, resulting in an increased proliferation of beta cells; additionally, there was an increase of satellite cells in skeletal muscle. Both types of cells typically decline during aging.
The future potential and challenges ahead
By far, the biggest hurdle to translating partial cellular reprogramming to people is the need to find a way to activate the OSKM factors in our cells without needing to engineer our bodies to react to a drug such as doxycycline. Doing this may require us to develop drugs capable of activating OSKM, editing every cell in our body to respond to a particular compound like doxycycline, which would be extremely challenging though plausible, or even editing the germline so that our children are born with such a modification to respond to a chosen compound, an idea that is an ethical nightmare to even consider not to mention the technical challenges of doing so successfully. Whatever the solution is, it needs to be practical.
The other major hurdle is to find a method suitable for the long term that does not require constant upkeep, lest the aging signs return rapidly, as they did in mice when treatment was interrupted. While there is some reason to believe that these signs would not return as rapidly in people given the differences between mouse and human metabolisms and our superior repair systems, it would likely return in due course. So, finding a cost-effective way to keep the cyclic treatment going is paramount; this could potentially be achieved using drugs or transient gene therapy.
Conclusion
Assuming that these barriers can be overcome, and the rapid advances in biotechnology offer a reason to think that they will, then partial cellular reprogramming could feasibly hold a great deal of potential for preventing or even curing the diseases of aging.
One might envision the early, first-pass use of this approach in a preventative way: older people at risk of age-related diseases could be given partial reprogramming in order to halt or at the least significantly slow down this aspect of aging and thus reduce their risk of developing age-related diseases.
More refined stages may see it being used in a more focused manner to repair a certain organ or tissue damaged by injury or disease. In another, more advanced, scenario, the gradual whole-body rejuvenation of older people might be attempted in order to totally prevent age-related diseases and keep them healthy, active and able to continue enjoying life.
The rapid progress of medical technology could potentially mean that such cellular reprogramming therapies may become available in the not too distant future. We certainly hope so.

Da der viel bejubelte 5G-Standard auch „höhere Frequenzen“ benutze, seien weitere Forschungen über mögliche Gesundheitsschädigungen unumgänglich. Auch ist auch Sicht Paulinis offen, „was geschieht, wenn etwa unterschiedliche Betreiber am gleichen Ort Sendeleistung aufbauen. Das werden wir beobachten und bewerten“.
Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zur krebserregenden Wirkung elektromagnetischer Felder (EMF) sind Legion, auch das BfS „hat diesbezügliche Studien überprüft und erklärt, daß eine krebspromovierende Wirkung von EMF als gesichert angesehen werden muß“, so Peter Hensinger, Vorstandsmitglied in der Verbraucherschutzorganisation „Diagnose-Funk e. V.“
In einem Fachbeitrag führt Hensinger ferner aus: „Es gibt in der WHO-Referenzdatenbank EMF-Portal zu allen Frequenzen (GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G, TETRA, Bluetooth und WLAN) zum Stand November 2017 insgesamt 1.430 Studien. Nach der Auswertung von „diagnose:funk“ zeigen rund 800 davon biologische Effekte, 400 sind auf www.EMFData.org dokumentiert. Die Studienergebnisse werden immer besorgniserregender. 2011 gruppierte die IARC, die Krebsagentur der WHO, die nichtionisierende Strahlung in die Kategorie 2B „möglicherweise Krebs erregend“ ein – in dieselbe Kategorie wie DDT und Autoabgase. Seit 1990 haben über 80 Studien DNA-Strangbrüche (Erbgutveränderungen) durch EMF nachgewiesen. Groß angelegte Studien der österreichischen AUVA-Versicherung und der US-Gesundheitsbehörde bestätigen das Krebsrisiko. (…) Neueste Forschungsergebnisse über die Handynutzung bei Vieltelefonierern (1.640 Stunden kumuliert) über mehr als 20 Jahre zeigen ein bis zu fünffach erhöhtes Krebsrisiko.““

5G wird eine massive Erhöhung hochfrequenter Strahlung zur Folge haben, der sich niemand mehr entziehen kann
5G auf der Erde
Um die enormen Datenmengen zu übertragen, die für das Internet der Dinge (Internet of Things) benötigt werden, wird die 5G-Technologie, sobald sie vollständig eingeführt ist, Wellen mit extrem kurzer Wellenlänge (Millimeterwellen) verwenden, die Feststoffe nur schlecht durchdringen können. Aus diesem Grund wird es nötig sein, in jedem Stadtgebiet Basisstationen in 100-Meter-Abständen zu installieren. Im Unterschied zu früheren Generationen drahtloser Technologie, bei denen eine einzelne Antenne über ein großes Gebiet sendete, werden 5G-Basisstationen und 5G-Geräte eine Vielzahl von Antennen haben, die als phasengesteuerte Gruppenantenne (phased array) angeordnet sind, und die gebündelte, lenkbare, laserähnliche Strahlen aussenden.
Jedes 5G-Mobiltelefon wird dutzende winziger Antennen enthalten, die zusammen einen dicht gebündelten Strahl zum nächstgelegenen Funkmasten schicken. Die US-amerikanische Federal Communications Commission (FCC) hat bereits Regeln erlassen, die erlauben, dass die effektive Leistung dieser Strahlen bis zu 20 Watt betragen darf, was dem Zehnfachen der erlaubten Leistung für heute zugelassene Mobiltelefone entspricht. Jede 5G-Basisstation wird hunderte bis tausende von Antennen enthalten, die vielteilige laser-ähnliche Strahlen gleichzeitig an alle Mobiltelefone und Endgeräte in ihrem Versorgungsbereich senden. Diese Technologie wird „Multiple Input Multiple Output“ (MIMO) genannt. Die von der Federal Communications Commission (FCC) eingeführten Regeln erlauben, dass die effektive Strahlungsleistung einer 5G-Basisstation bis zu 30.000 Watt pro 100 MHz Bandbreite, also 300.000 Watt pro 1 GHz Bandbreite betragen dürfen, was einer zehn- bis hundertfachen Erhöhung im Vergleich zu aktuell zulässigen Werten von Basisstationen entspricht.
5G im Weltraum
Mindestens fünf Unternehmen5 beabsichtigen, 5G aus dem Weltraum mit Hilfe von 20.000 Satelliten in niederen und mittleren Erdumlaufbahnen zu senden, was die gesamte Erde durch starke, gebündelte, steuerbare Strahlen abdecken würde. Jeder Satellit wird extrem kurzwellige Wellen (Millimeterwellen) mit einer effektiven Strahlungsleistung von bis zu 5 Millionen Watt mit Hilfe tausender als phasengesteuerte Gruppenantenne (phased array) angeordneter Antennen senden. Obwohl die tatsächlich am Boden auftreffende Strahlungsenergie dieser Satelliten geringer ist als jene der Boden-Antennen, werden die Satelliten auch all jene Bereiche der Erde bestrahlen, die nicht von den anderen Sendern erreicht werden. Darüberhinaus wird diese Strahlungsenergie zusätzlich zu den Strahlungen von Milliarden von Internet-Of-Things-Objekten am Boden vorhanden sein. Noch wichtiger ist dabei, dass sich die Satelliten in der Magnetosphäre der Erde (dem Erdmagnetfeld) befinden und dadurch einen bedeutenden Einfluss auf die natürliche Elektrizität der Atmosphäre haben. Die damit einhergehende Veränderung des elektromagnetischen „Klimas“ der Erde wird möglicherweise eine noch größere Bedrohung für das Leben darstellen als die Strahlung der bodengestützten Antennen (siehe unten).
Schädliche Auswirkungen von Hochfrequenzstrahlung sind bereits nachgewiesen
Schon bevor 5G entwickelt wurde, riefen Dutzende Petitionen und Appelle internationaler Wissenschaftler, darunter der von mehr als 3.000 Ärzten unterzeichnete Freiburger Appell, dazu auf, den weiteren Ausbau von drahtlosen Technologien und neuen Basisstationen zu stoppen. Im Jahr 2015 teilten 215 Wissenschaftler aus 41 Ländern ihre alarmierenden Bedenken den Vereinten Nationen (UN) und der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) mit. Darin erklärten sie unmissverständlich: „Zahlreiche aktuelle wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen haben gezeigt, dass elektromagnetische Felder lebende Organismen bereits bei Werten beeinflussen, die weit unterhalb der meisten internationalen und nationalen Richtlinien liegen“. Mehr als 10.000 von Experten verifizierte wissenschaftliche Studien belegen, dass elektromagnetische Strahlung die menschliche Gesundheit schädigt. Diese schädlichen Effekte umfassen:

Die Internationale Agentur für Krebsforschung (IARC) der WHO gelangte 2011 zu dem Schluss, dass HF-Strahlung mit Frequenzen von 30 kHz bis 300 GHz möglicherweisekrebserregend für den Menschen ist (klassifizuert in Kategorie 2B). Forschungserkenntnisse, darunter aktuelle Studien über die Korrelation von Mobiltelefonnutzung und dem Risiko von Gehirnkrebs, weisen darauf hin, dass Hochfrequenz-Strahlung für den Menschen nachweislich krebserregend ist. Aus diesem Grund sollte Hochfrequenzstrahlung (HF) als Karzinogen der Kategorie 1 eingestuft werden, wie für Tabakrauch und Asbest bereits geschehen.
Die meisten heute verwendeten drahtlosen Übertragungstechnologien sind pulsmoduliert. Gesundheitsschäden werden sowohl durch die hochfrequente Trägerwelle als auch
durch die niederfrequente Pulsung verursacht.
Der Einsatz von 5G-Satelliten muss verboten werden
Die Erde, die Ionosphäre und die untere Atmosphäre bilden das System natürlicher Elektrizität, in dem wir leben. Es ist allgemein bekannt, dass die biologische Rhythmen von Menschen, Vögeln, Hamstern und Spinnen vom natürlichen elektromagnetischen Umfeld gesteuert werden und dass das Wohlergehen aller Organismen von der Stabilität dieses Umfelds abhängig ist. Dies schließt auch die elektrischen Eigenschaften der Atmosphäre ein. In einer bahnbrechenden Publikation behandelte Cherry die Bedeutung der Schumann-Resonanz sowie die Frage, warum ionosphärische Störungen Veränderungen von Bluthochdruck und Melatonin bewirken und in weiterer Konsequenz „Krebs, Fortpflanzungsstörungen, Herz- und neurologische Erkrankungen sowie den Tod“ verursachen können.
Das elektromagnetischen Umfeld der Erde wurde bereits durch die Hochspannungsleitungen verändert. Oberwellen der Starkstromleitungen erreichen die Ionosphäre und Magnetosphäre der Erde, wo sie durch Wellen-Teilchen-Wechselwirkungen verstärkt werden. Im Jahr 1985 warnte Dr. Robert O. Becker, dass die von Starkstromleitungen verursachten Oberwellen bereits die Struktur der Magnetosphäre verändert haben und dass die weitere Ausweitung dieses Effekts „die Lebensfähigkeit aller Lebewesen auf der Erde bedroht“. Der Einsatz zehntausender Satelliten in der Ionosphäre und in der Magnetosphäre, welche modulierte Signale mit Millionen von Watt Leistung und in Millionen unterschiedlichen Frequenzen aussenden, wird voraussichtlich unsere elektromagnetische Umwelt über unsere Anpassungsfähigkeit hinaus verändern.
Informelle Beobachtungen haben bereits Belege geliefert, die darauf schließen lassen, dass die etwa 100 (einhundert) Satelliten, die seit 1998 aus einer erdnahen Umlaufbahn 2G- und 3GTelefondienste zur Verfügung stellen, ernsthafte Auswirkungen auf Menschen und Tiere haben. Solche Auswirkungen können nicht allein durch die am Boden auftreffenden, vergleichsweise niedrigen Strahlendosen erklärt werden. Erkenntnisse aus anderen relevanten wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen müssen bei der Erklärung mitberücksichtigt werden, wie etwa die Bereiche der Atmosphärenphysik und der Akupunktur.Eine Erweiterung um 20.000 5G-Satelliten wird das globale System natürlicher Elektrizität zusätzlich verschmutzen und die Schumann-Resonanzenverändern, in deren Einfluss sich alles Leben auf der Erde entwickelt hat.
Die Auswirkungen davon wären sehr umfassend und könnten tiefgreifende Schäden zur Folge haben.
5G ist qualitativ und quantitativ anders zu beurteilen als 4G
Die Vorstellung, dass wir einezehn- bis hundertfach höhere Strahlendosis als heute bei extrem kurzen Wellenlängen ohne negative Auswirkungen vertragen würden, basiert auf einer völlig fehlerhaften Modellvorstellung vom menschlichen Körpers als einer mit einer homogenen Flüssigkeit gefüllten Schale. Die Annahme, Millimeterwellen (Wellen mit extrem kurzer Wellenlänge) könnten die Haut nicht durchdringen, ignoriert die Tatsache, dass Nerven, Blutgefäße80,81 und andere elektrisch leitende oder leitfähige Strukturen strahlungsinduzierte Ströme tief in den Körper hineintragen können. Ein weiterer, möglicherweise noch schwerwiegenderer Irrtum ist, dass phasengesteuerte Gruppenantennen (phased arrays) keine gewöhnlichen Antennen sind. Wenn ein gewöhnliches elektromagnetisches Feld in den Körper
eindringt, bewirkt es, dass Ladungen sich bewegen und elektrische Ströme fließen. Wenn aber extrem kurze elektromagnetische Impulse in den Körper eindringen, geschieht etwas anderes: die sich bewegenden Ladungen werden selbst zu kleinen Antennen, die noch einmal zusätzlich das elektromagnetische Feld ausstrahlen und dieses tiefer in den Körper hineinsenden. Diese repetierten, weitergeleiteten Wellen werden Brillouin-Vorläufer genannt. Diese werden bedeutend, wenn sich entweder die Leistung oder die Phase der Wellen sich schnell genug ändert. Die 5G-Technologie wird vermutlich beide Kriterien erfüllen.
Des Weiteren birgt gerade oberflächliches Eindringen der Strahlung eine Bedrohung für die Augen, für die Haut als größtes Organ des Körpers, sowie für sehr kleine Lebewesen. Aktuelle von Experten verifizierte Studien sagen Verbrennungen (thermal skin burns) beim Menschen durch 5G-Strahlung voraus. Für Insekten, die bei Millimeterwellen (Wellen mit extrem kurzen Wellenlängen) im Vergleich zu den derzeit verwendeten Wellenlängen bis zu 100 mal höhere Strahlendosen absorbieren, wird in diesen Studien resonante Absorption (resonant absorption) vorausgesagt. In Anbetracht dessen, dass die Population vonfliegenden Insekten seit 1989 sogar in Naturschutzgebieten um 75-80% zurückgegangen ist, könnte die 5G-Strahlung katastrophale Auswirkungen auf Insektenpopulationen weltweit haben. Eine 1986
durchgeführteStudie von 1986 von Om Gandhi warnt davor, dass Millimeterwellen sehr stark von der Hornhaut des Auges absorbiert werden und dass gewöhnliche Kleidung, die eine Dicke im Millimeterbereich hat, die Absorption von Energie durch die Haut aufgrund resonanzartigerEffekte verstärkt. Russell fasste (2018) die bekannten Auswirkungen von Millimeterwellen auf die Haut, die Augen (einschließlich Linsentrübungen), die Herzfrequenz, das Immunsystem und die DNA zusammen.

Hochfrequenzstrahlung (HF) hat sowohl unmittelbar auftretende als auch langfristige Effekte. Krebs und Herzerkrankungen sind Beispiele für Langzeiteffekte. Veränderungen des Herzrhythmus und der Gehirnfunktion (EEG) sind Beispiele für unmittelbare Auswirkungen. Ein Syndrom, das in der ehemaligen Sowjetunion Radiowellenkrankheitgenannt wurde und heute weltweit als Elektrosensibilität(electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) bezeichnet wird, kann entweder akut oder chronisch sein. Professor Dr. Karl Hecht hat eine ausführliche Übersicht dieser Syndrome veröffentlicht, die aus mehr als 1.500 Arbeiten russischer Wissenschaftler sowie den Krankheitsgeschichten von mehr als 1.000 seiner eigenen Patienten in Deutschland zusammengestellt wurde. Die objektiven Befunde umfassen dabei Schlafstörungen, Anomalien von Blutdruck und Herzfrequenz, Verdauungsstörungen, Haarausfall, Tinnitus und Hautausschlag. Zu den subjektiven Symptomen zählen Schwindel, Übelkeit, Kopfschmerzen, Gedächtnisverlust, Konzentrationsstörungen, Müdigkeit, grippeähnliche Symptome und Herzschmerzen.
Der EUROPAEM-EMF-Leitfaden 2016 (EUROPAEM: Europäische Akademie für Umweltmedizin e.V.) stellt fest, dass EHS (electromagentic hypersensitivity) entsteht, wenn Menschen „in ihrem täglichen Leben ständig“ stärkeren elektromagnetischen Feldern ausgesetzt sind, und dass eine „Reduktion und Prävention der Exposition“ notwendig für die Gesundung dieser Patienten ist.104 EHS sollte nicht länger als eine Krankheit betrachtet werden, sondern als eine Verletzung aufgrund einer toxischen Umwelt, die immer größere Teile der Bevölkerung betrifft. Zurzeit wird die Zahl der weltweit an EHS (electromagentic hypersensitivity) leidenden Menschen auf 100 Millionen geschätzt. Innaher Zukunft könnten nahezu alle Menschen betroffen sein, falls der weltweite Ausbau von 5G wie geplant voranschreitet.
Die Brüsseler internationale wissenschaftliche Erklärung zu EHS und multipler chemischer Sensitivität (MCS) stellte 2015 fest: „Tatenlosigkeit bedeutet Kosten für die Allgemeinheit ist und keine Option mehr […] Wir stimmen darin überein, dass hierin eine ernsthafte Gefahr für die öffentliche Gesundheit besteht […] und es ist dringend erforderlich, dass größere grundlegende Präventionsmaßnahmen ergriffen und vorrangig behandelt werden, um dieser weltweiten Pandemie aussichtsreich zu begegnen.“

However, it remains a huge issue in African countries – including Kenya – where animals such as rhinos and elephants are targeted for their horns and tusks for alternative medicine and ivory, respectively. However, the government is taking drastic steps to stem the bloodshed.
„We have in place the Wildlife Conservation Act that was enacted in 2013 and which fetches offenders a life sentence or a fine of U.S. $200,000,“ Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Najib Balala told China’s Xinhua news agency. „However, this has not been deterrence enough to curb poaching, hence the proposed stiffer sentence.“
In 2017, poachers killed nine rhinos and 69 elephants – cancelling out the growth rate of their populations. The number of black rhinos in the country is now below 1,000. Balala added that the law to see poachers face the death penalty, while not yet enacted, was being fast-tracked.
“Across the continent’s diverse wild lands, management authorities need data-driven solutions to enhance anti-poaching capacity to allow remaining priority populations to recover from previous, and current, crises,“ stated the African Wildlife Foundation.
„Meanwhile,“ they continue, „community-level interventions must explore different economic opportunities that secure rather than destroy biodiversity as pressure on natural resources grows with increasing development, infrastructure, and urbanisation.”
Ghana, home to animals as diverse as lions, elephants and monkeys, is seeing the rapid spread of human life – as the metropolis leaches into the countryside. But the main problem here, as it is in large swathes of Africa, is traffic. Meetings and functions usually start 45 minutes late and locals joke that „GMT“ stands for „Ghana Maybe Time“.
In 2005, there were 159,000 registered vehicles in the country. Just 10 years later, there were already 890,000. Inevitably, as well as the impact on humans, wildlife is affected too – unless the animal in question is lucky enough to live on a protected wildlife reserve.
“Not only can KWS [Kenya Wildlife Service] catch wildlife criminals but now they have the capacity to ensure those criminals are convicted under Kenya’s robust laws,“ stated Max Graham of Space for Giants. „A ranger in the field should not have to experience the frustration of confronting a wildlife criminal they arrested a week earlier walking free again because of an acquittal. This is a critical step up in the battle against the illegal wildlife trade.“
However, as to whether Kenya’s decisive steps to protect wildlife are progressive is up for discussion. The United Nations (UN) opposes the death penalty. The UN General Assembly has recommended a phasing-out of capital punishment and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights advocates its abolition worldwide.
Furthermore, the idea that poachers enjoy what they do is misconceived. In many cases, it may be the only way they can provide for their families – creating a difficult moral dilemma for those tasked with policing the situation.
Kenya’s tourism chiefs say that the number of poaching incidents has reduced thanks to investment in conservation and wildlife law enforcement. These individuals, dubbed wildlife „bodyguards“, also helped to publicise the desperate fight against poaching.
“These efforts led to an 85 per cent reduction in rhino poaching and a 78 per cent reduction in elephant poaching, respectively, in 2017 compared to when poaching was at its peak in 2013 and 2012 respectively,” the ministry said.
„At current poaching rates, elephants, rhinos and other iconic African wildlife may be gone within our lifetime,” the African Wildlife Foundation states. They add that poachers “use high-powered technology and weaponry to track and kill many animals at once without being detected.”
However, conservationists are also turning to technological methods. Certain Kenyan rangers have started using thermal and infrared cameras in the hopes of spotting poachers before they spot their targets.

“In the past, we would never have found these people,” explains Brian Heath, who runs the conservation group the Mara Conservancy. “Now the poachers are saying it’s just not worth going out because the chance of getting caught is getting higher and higher. It has been a big deterrent. In other areas, like South Africa where most rhinos live, dozens of rhinos have actually been airlifted out of poaching-prone areas and into safer locales, like Botswana, where poaching is rare.”
Vietnam has typically been thought of as the dominant market for rhino horn, while up to 70 per cent of illegal ivory ends up in China, where it sells for up to $1,000 a pound. That said, there are literally tonnes of it in the west and a burgeoning antique ivory market. That said, its future – at least as a legal trade – looks increasingly uncertain.
While not divisive as a conversation topic, poaching remains an important source of income for some of the world’s most impoverished people. Unfortunately, the issue isn’t straightforward and enacting the death penalty will be seen by many not as a step forward, but a step back.“
