„Was meinen Sie mit „Handwerk des Denkens“?
Rainer Mausfeld: Zum Handwerkszeug des Denkens gehören auch die in der Aufklärung verfeinerten Methoden, durch die sich unbewusste und oftmals tief verborgene politische Vorurteile aufdecken lassen. Somit gehört auch die Ideologiekritik zur Denkmethodologie. Politische Indoktrination zielt ja gerade darauf, in uns die Art von Vorurteilen zu erzeugen, die dazu beitragen, den Status der Machtausübenden zu stabilisieren. Da also Ideologiekritik stets Machtkritik ist, kann man nicht erwarten, dass dies bei den jeweils Mächtigen auf Begeisterung stößt.
Nun ist, wie der große Demokratietheoretiker Sheldon Wolin treffend feststellte, in unseren kapitalistischen Demokratien jede Form von Dissens erlaubt oder als Revolutionsprophylaxe sogar erwünscht, solange der Dissens politisch unwirksam bleibt. Zur Eingrenzung, Neutralisierung und Ächtung von unerwünschtem Dissens gibt es ein großes Spektrum an erprobten Möglichkeiten eines Dissensmanagements.
Methoden und Funktionsweisen eines Dissensmanagements können wir besser verstehen, wenn wir statt auf Personen auf seine strukturellen Eigenschaften fokussieren. Zu diesen gut untersuchten und seit langem bekannten strukturellen Eigenschaften gehört es, dass in allen Machtstrukturen besonders Journalisten, Intellektuelle und Wissenschaftler, die in gesellschaftsrelevanten Bereichen arbeiten, eine Tendenz aufweisen, sich wie Eisenspäne in den Kraftfeldern der Macht auszurichten.
Folglich finden sich in allen Machtstrukturen gerade unter Personen, die über besondere Möglichkeiten verfügen, sich in eine öffentliche Debatte einzubringen, bereitwillige Vertreter, die gleichsam als Bannwarte der Macht agieren und in vorauseilendem Opportunismus alles, was sie für einen unzulässigen Dissens halten, mit Diffamierungsbegriffen belegen.
Da sie auf diese Weise den in Politik und Medien Mächtigen bezeugen, dass sie die herrschende Ideologie tief internalisiert haben, werden sie dafür vor allem im journalistischen und akademischen Bereich oft mit entsprechenden Karrierechancen belohnt. Diese Mechanismen eines Dissensmanagements in kapitalistischen Demokratien sind seit langem wohlbekannt.
Das heißt, Vorwürfe wie „geschlossenes Weltbild“ oder „Verschwörungstheorie“ kommen für Sie nicht gerade unerwartet?“

Sprache als Herrschaftsinstrument
Damit sind wir schon mitten im Thema – die Rolle der Sprache. Sie sagen: „Wer die Sprache beherrscht, also die Begrifflichkeiten und Kategorien, in denen wir über gesellschaftlich-politische Phänomene nachdenken und sprechen, hat wenig Mühe, auch uns zu beherrschen.“ Da fallen einem schnell beliebte Vokabeln wie „Populismus“ oder eben „Verschwörungstheorie“ ein – Worte, die das Denken beschränken und mit denen bestimmte Ansichten für indiskutabel erklärt werden. Was zur Frage führt: Kann eine Gesellschaft, die ihr eigenes Denken zunehmend beschränkt, überhaupt noch kluge Entscheidungen treffen?
Rainer Mausfeld: Politischer Kampf bedeutet stets Kampf um Definitionsmacht und um die Aneignung von Wörtern. Daher ist Sprache in der Tat neben Panzern das wichtigste Herrschaftsinstrument. Da Demokratien die Möglichkeiten eines Einsatzes physischer Gewalt begrenzen, sind die Machtausübenden darauf angewiesen, die Stabilität von Machtverhältnissen auf anderen Wegen zu sichern. Über die Sprache lässt sich dies besonders wirkungsvoll bewerkstelligen. Beispielsweise über eine orwellsche Neubestimmung sehr grundlegender Begriffe wie Freiheit und Demokratie oder auch durch das riesige Vokabular von neoliberalen Falschwörtern wie Liberalisierung, Globalisierung, Deregulierung oder Reform.
Über die Sprache lassen sich auch ganze ideologische Denk- und Erklärungsrahmen vermitteln, die wir dann meist unbewusst zur Einbettung unserer täglichen politischen Erfahrungen verwenden. Etwa die Rahmenerzählung einer „westlichen Wertegemeinschaft“ – ein für ihre Millionen Opfer besonders folgenschweres Beispiel. Diese ideologischen Rahmenerzählungen werden durch ein breites Spektrum an politischem Kampfvokabular gegen Einwände abgesichert. Gegenwärtig haben dabei vor allem die Begriffe Populismus und Verschwörungstheorie Hochkonjunktur, mit denen sich der neoliberale „Fanatismus der Mitte“ – übrigens ein Begriff, den der bedeutende Verfassungsrechtler Helmut Ridder schon 1979 verwendete – als alternativlos zu deklarieren sucht.“

„Wie schätzen Sie die heutige Verwendung des Begriffes „Populismus“ denn ein?
Rainer Mausfeld: Man muss sich nur die Wahlplakate der jeweiligen Regierungsparteien der vergangenen, sagen wir, 40 Jahre ansehen, um den Beitrag zu erkennen, der hier zur Komplexitätsvermittlung geleistet wurde. Die heute mit dem Populismusvorwurf belegten politischen Erscheinungsformen kann man wohl als eine Art Nemesis – also sozusagen als ausgleichende Gerechtigkeit – für die grundlegende Verachtung des Volkes verstehen, die kennzeichnend für alle Eliten westlicher Demokratien ist.
Diese Verachtung des Volkes entlädt sich nun mit populistischer Wucht und Unberechenbarkeit, oft auf der Basis von Affekten, die zu den dunklen Seiten der menschlichen Natur gehören. Bei diesen Affekten handelt es sich oft um Abwehraffekte gegen die eigenen Gefühle politischer Ohnmacht, die sich nun vor allem gegen die sozial Schwächsten entladen. Diese Gefühle politischer Ohnmacht, das sollten wir nicht vergessen, wurden und werden seit Jahrzehnten in sehr systematischer Weise erzeugt, um das Volk von einer politischen Partizipation fernzuhalten.
Können Sie das erläutern?
Rainer Mausfeld: Die neoliberale Phantom-Mitte betreibt seit Jahrzehnten ein Umverteilungsprojekt, das gegen die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung gerichtet ist. Dieses neoliberale Projekt ist nur möglich, wenn zuvor die in langen Jahrzehnten mühsam gewonnene demokratische Substanz abgebaut oder zumindest neutralisiert wird. Die Entmachtung der Legislative, also des Parlaments, durch die Exekutive ist nur ein, wenn auch ein besonders folgenschwerer Aspekt. Eine so massiv gegen die Interessen der Mehrzahl der Bevölkerung gerichtete Politik kann der Bevölkerung auf die Dauer trotz massiver Indoktrinationsbemühungen nicht verborgen bleiben.
Es ist also wenig überraschend, dass immer mehr Menschen die Brüche zwischen Ideologie und Realität erkennen. Entsprechend erhöhen sich in der Bevölkerung das Misstrauen in die politischen Institutionen, das Empörungspotential und damit das Veränderungsbedürfnis. Die neoliberale Phantom-Mitte benötigt daher zur Sicherung ihrer Macht den von ihr wesentlich mithervorgebrachten Rechtspopulismus. Ja, sie ist mittlerweile geradezu symbiotisch auf ihn angewiesen, weil sie ihn als Mittel zur Angsterzeugung benötigt, um mit dieser Drohkulisse das wachsende Veränderungsbedürfnis der Bevölkerung in „alternativlosen“ Bahnen zu halten. So geben sich also de facto die Täter als Retter aus.
Und wie sieht es mit den allgegenwärtigen „Verschwörungstheorien“ aus?
Rainer Mausfeld: Der politische Kampfbegriff der Verschwörungstheorie lässt sich noch kürzer abhandeln. Er ist jenseits einiger oberflächlich-deskriptiver Aspekte ohne jede ernsthafte intellektuelle Substanz und erschöpft sich weitgehend in seiner ideologischen Verwendung als Diffamierungsbegriff. Das hat freilich den Vorteil, dass sich die intellektuellen und journalistischen Bannwarte der Macht leicht daran erkennen lassen, dass sie großzügigen Gebrauch von ihm und anderem staatlich anerkannten Diffamierungsvokabular machen.
Wenn nun mit einem solchen Kampfvokabular der öffentliche Debattenraum gezielt beschränkt wird, so bedeutet dies, dass die für die drängenden und auch bedrohlichen politischen Probleme der Gegenwart erforderlichen Lösungsoptionen den politischen Entscheidungsträgern de facto nicht mehr zur Verfügung stehen. Folglich geht es für sie nur darum, sich einer demokratischen Verantwortung für die Folgen ihrer Politik zu entziehen und ihre Macht zu stabilisieren, also um die Fortsetzung gerade der politischen Maßnahmen, die erst zu den neoliberalen Zerstörungen unserer sozialen und ökologischen Lebensgrundlagen geführt haben.“

„Rainer Mausfeld: Viele Täuschungen und Illusionen, die sich auch für Zwecke der politischen Indoktrination nutzen lassen, beruhen auf Eigenschaften und Designprinzipien unseres Geistes. Die ihnen zugrunde liegenden internen Mechanismen sind weitgehend gegen introspektive Einblicke abgeschottet, so dass derartige Täuschungen auch dann noch funktionieren, wenn man uns darüber aufgeklärt hat, dass es Täuschungen sind.
Beispielsweise steigt in vielen Kontexten tendenziell der gefühlte Wahrheitsgehalt einer tatsächlich falschen Aussage, je häufiger sie dargeboten wird, ein Effekt der massiv erhöht wird, wenn die Aussage aus vermeintlich unabhängigen Quellen wiederholt wird. Beispielsweise, wenn wir zur Ukraine oder zu Syrien morgens den Deutschlandfunk hören, dann die Süddeutsche lesen und uns abends noch die Tagesschau ansehen. Selbst dann, wenn wir uns dieses Effektes bewusst, sind wir ihm immer wieder erlegen, unabhängig davon, ob wir Experten oder Laien sind. Auch die Illusion des Informiertseins gehört hierzu. Wir alle sind gleichermaßen anfällig für sie.“

„Rainer Mausfeld: Der Grund ist recht banal: Zu diesen Schichten gehören diejenigen, die am längsten die Ausbildungsinstitutionen einer Gesellschaft durchlaufen haben und entsprechende Karrierefilter, sei es im Journalismus oder im akademischen Bereich, passiert haben. Ausbildungsinstitutionen einer Gesellschaft verkörpern jedoch ebenso wie die Karrierefilter in ideologierelevanten Berufen gerade die Kernideologien einer Gesellschaft – das ist eine soziologische Binsenwahrheit.
Folglich weisen zu allen Zeiten tendenziell gerade die sogenannten gebildeten Schichten einen besonders hohen Grad ideologischer Indoktrination auf; zugleich haben sie diese Indoktrination so tief internalisiert, dass sie sie gar nicht mehr als Indoktrination bemerken und, wie die Bewohner der Höhle in Platons Höhlengleichnis, ausgesprochen aggressiv reagieren, wenn sie darauf hingewiesen werden. Da sie sich kontinuierlich untereinander in ihren ideologischen Perspektiven bestärken, erhöht sich nach dem genannten Effekt der subjektive Wahrheitswert ihrer Meinungen und Haltungen, so dass es für sie oftmals im Wortsinne gar nicht mehr denkbar ist, dass es sich bei ihren Meinungen und Haltungen um ideologische Stabilisierungen von Machtverhältnissen handelt.“

I think the .com era was just a beta that was wiped so the myth of an organic internet could be established before the military-net / surveillance economy could be laid down. Imagine a future technology that would provide instant access to the world’s knowledge and artificial intelligence, simply by thinking about a specific topic or question. Communications, education, work, and the world as we know it would be transformed.
Writing in Frontiers in Neuroscience, an international collaboration led by researchers at UC Berkeley and the US Institute for Molecular Manufacturing predicts that exponential progress in nanotechnology, nanomedicine, AI, and computation will lead this century to the development of a “Human Brain/Cloud Interface” (B/CI), that connects neurons and synapses in the brain to vast cloud-computing networks in real time.
Nanobots on the brain
The B/CI concept was initially proposed by futurist-author-inventor Ray Kurzweil, who suggested that neural nanorobots – brainchild of Robert Freitas, Jr., senior author of the research – could be used to connect the neocortex of the human brain to a “synthetic neocortex” in the cloud. Our wrinkled neocortex is the newest, smartest, ‘conscious’ part of the brain.
Freitas’ proposed neural nanorobots would provide direct, real-time monitoring and control of signals to and from brain cells.
“These devices would navigate the human vasculature, cross the blood-brain barrier, and precisely autoposition themselves among, or even within brain cells,” explains Freitas. “They would then wirelessly transmit encoded information to and from a cloud-based supercomputer network for real-time brain-state monitoring and data extraction.”
The internet of thoughts
This cortex in the cloud would allow “Matrix”-style downloading of information to the brain, the group claims.
“A human B/CI system mediated by neuralnanorobotics could empower individuals with instantaneous access to all cumulative human knowledge available in the cloud, while significantly improving human learning capacities and intelligence,” says lead author Dr. Nuno Martins.
B/CI technology might also allow us to create a future “global superbrain” that would connect networks of individual human brains and AIs to enable collective thought.
“While not yet particularly sophisticated, an experimental human ‘BrainNet’ system has already been tested, enabling thought-driven information exchange via the cloud between individual brains,” explains Martins. “It used electrical signals recorded through the skull of ‘senders’ and magnetic stimulation through the skull of ‘receivers,’ allowing for performing cooperative tasks.
“With the advance of neuralnanorobotics, we envisage the future creation of ‘superbrains’ that can harness the thoughts and thinking power of any number of humans and machines in real time. This shared cognition could revolutionize democracy, enhance empathy, and ultimately unite culturally diverse groups into a truly global society.”
When can we connect?
According to the group’s estimates, even existing supercomputers have processing speeds capable of handling the necessary volumes of neural data for B/CI – and they’re getting faster, fast.
Rather, transferring neural data to and from supercomputers in the cloud is likely to be the ultimate bottleneck in B/CI development.
“This challenge includes not only finding the bandwidth for global data transmission,” cautions Martins, “but also, how to enable data exchange with neurons via tiny devices embedded deep in the brain.”
One solution proposed by the authors is the use of ‘magnetoelectric nanoparticles’ to effectively amplify communication between neurons and the cloud.

“These nanoparticles have been used already in living mice to couple external magnetic fields to neuronal electric fields – that is, to detect and locally amplify these magnetic signals and so allow them to alter the electrical activity of neurons,” explains Martins. “This could work in reverse, too: electrical signals produced by neurons and nanorobots could be amplified via magnetoelectric nanoparticles, to allow their detection outside of the skull.”
Getting these nanoparticles – and nanorobots – safely into the brain via the circulation, would be perhaps the greatest challenge of all in B/CI.
“A detailed analysis of the biodistribution and biocompatibility of nanoparticles is required before they can be considered for human development. Nevertheless, with these and other promising technologies for B/CI developing at an ever-increasing rate, an ‘internet of thoughts’ could become a reality before the turn of the century,” Martins concludes.

Human Brain/Cloud Interface
The Internet comprises a decentralized global system that serves humanity’s collective effort to generate, process, and store data, most of which is handled by the rapidly expanding cloud. A stable, secure, real-time system may allow for interfacing the cloud with the human brain. One promising strategy for enabling such a system, denoted here as a “human brain/cloud interface” (“B/CI”), would be based on technologies referred to here as “neuralnanorobotics.” Future neuralnanorobotics technologies are anticipated to facilitate accurate diagnoses and eventual cures for the ∼400 conditions that affect the human brain. Neuralnanorobotics may also enable a B/CI with controlled connectivity between neural activity and external data storage and processing, via the direct monitoring of the brain’s ∼86 × 109 neurons and ∼2 × 1014 synapses. Subsequent to navigating the human vasculature, three species of neuralnanorobots (endoneurobots, gliabots, and synaptobots) could traverse the blood–brain barrier (BBB), enter the brain parenchyma, ingress into individual human brain cells, and autoposition themselves at the axon initial segments of neurons (endoneurobots), within glial cells (gliabots), and in intimate proximity to synapses (synaptobots). They would then wirelessly transmit up to ∼6 × 1016 bits per second of synaptically processed and encoded human–brain electrical information via auxiliary nanorobotic fiber optics (30 cm3) with the capacity to handle up to 1018 bits/sec and provide rapid data transfer to a cloud based supercomputer for real-time brain-state monitoring and data extraction. The modern understanding of the Pentagon´s relationship with unexplained flying phenomena has become remarkably more pointed in the last six months since the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program was uncovered. Its disclosure came in between our own exclusive reporting on two very strange and well-documented encounters with strange aircraft operating in U.S. airspace. Now, new documents are coming to light that show the Department of Defense´s own spy agency was also interested in subjects that border on science fiction and the even the paranormal, including warp drive, extra-dimensional manipulation, dark energy, and other highly exotic forms of space travel.
The documents were first discovered by George Knapp´s I-Team, part of Las Vegas CBS affiliate Channel 8 News, which has been investigating the government´s supposed connection with ´UFOs´ for decades.
Author´s note 5/14/18: It has come to our attention that the documents were in fact first posted by Corey Goode late last year shortly after the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program was first disclosed.
Recently Knapp has been digging deeper into Bigelow Aerospace—which is located in Las Vegas—and its starring role in the previously classified program. It is no secret that Robert Bigelow, a former real estate developer turned inflatable space station entrepreneur, has been highly interested in UFOs, but the depth of the company´s official relationship with the Defense Department regarding the topic was something entirely unheard of before the disclosure of the Defense Intelligence Agency´s (DIA) Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program occurred in December 2017.
Abbreviated AATIP, that effort, and its funding, sprang from Nevada Senator Harry Reid´s interest in the topic, along with that of a Defense Intelligence Agency official. The program, which eventually cost $22 million and ran roughly between 2008 and 2012, began after Bigelow won the contract, apparently to investigate UFO sightings, along with pretty much everything else that goes along with the topic for better or worse, on behalf of the military.
A team of nearly 50 scientists, analysts, and investigators were assembled to work on the program, which was originally and very cryptically dubbed the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications (AAWSA) Program before gaining its more recent moniker. The contract between the DIA and Bigelow made sure not to spell out its focus, instead referring to exotic technologies without mentioning UFOs. The I-Team writes:
„The agreement with DIA did not mention UFOs at all. It used more generic terms such as future threats and breakthrough technologies, and specified 12 focal points including, lift, propulsion, materials, versions of stealth as well as human interface and human effects.“

It was under the AAWSA name that the organization funded at least two studies into advanced propulsion and space technology research that border on the fantastical. The first of these studies, dated March 29, 2010, deals with „advanced space propulsion“ for faster-than-light travel, discussing theoretical physical constructs such as „spacetime-altered regions“ and „gravity/antigravity“ forces. The second study, which the AAWSA program published on April 2, 2010, covers similar ground, but also includes discussions about „dark energy“ and „extra dimensions.“
The AAWSA experts did this work under the auspices of DIA´s Defense Warning Office, which makes good sense, at least conceptually. This organization first came into being in 2002 and is „charged with identifying sources of increasing threats to U.S. interests in critical regions,“ accordin

UFO sightings are often indications of advanced and secret military aircraft research and development projects. Having a team of experts try and determine if any of the reports translated to real programs, especially those that potential opponents such as Russia or China might have been working on, would be well with DIA´s mandate for the office.
That AAWSA team would have delved into known developments in associated fields would also make sense in this context. If America´s adversaries were rapidly advancing toward practical warp drives and other advanced propulsion and space research, DIA would definitely want to know in order to help inform U.S. policy responses.
„These studies are so loaded with information,“ Senator Reid reportedly said at one point, according to Las Vegas´ Channel 8. „One thing we learned is over the decades a lot of things happen there´s no explanation for. Well there are now.“

But the applicability of these studies to the Defense Warning Office´s core mission seems dubious, as do portions of the underlying research itself. Neither report suggested that the technology they described was anywhere near practical or that any foreign government was close to achieving a relevant breakthrough.
„This paper has considered the possibility—even likelihood—that future developments with regard to advanced aerospace technologies will trend in the direction of manipulating the underlying spacetime structure of the vacuum of space itself by processes that can be called vacuum engineering or metric engineering,“ the March 2010 study says in its final discussion section. „Far from being simply a fanciful concept, a significant literature exists in peer-reviewed, Tier 1 physics publications in which the topic is explored in detail.“
„The idea that a sufficiently advanced technology may interact with, and acquire direct control over, the higher dimensions is a tantalizing possibility, and one that is most certainly worthy of deeper investigation,“ the second document concludes. „Of course, this may not be actualized until many years in the future, but consider the many spectacular physical phenomena that are believed to be true at this early point in the 21st century.“
What these statements do clearly reflect is the vision of the primary „contractor“ for these studies, EarthTech International, Inc., a small firm headquartered in Austin, Texas. This company no longer has a functional website and otherwise has a virtually non-existent presence on the internet. „We strive to translate these ideas into laboratory experiments,“ according to an archived copy of the company´s website from 2017.

A cursory internet search on EarthTech´s CEO Harold Puthoff, Ph.D., who authored the March 2010 study, and Eric Davis, Ph.D., another employee who co-authored the other report, quickly turns up a web of links to Bigelow and his other fringe scientific and paranormal investigative endeavors, including the now defunct National Institute for Discovery Science, or NIDSci. Independent consultant Richard Obousy, who helped produce the April 2010 document, also has connections to the Nevada businessman.
Puthoff is now Vice President of Science and Technology at To The Stars Academy of Arts and Science, a non-profit organization that reportedly is, at least in part, continuing the AAITP´s work independently. Luis Elizondo, who was the government head of AAITP and its follow-on guise, is its Director of Global Security and Special Programs.
The full extent of the AAWSA effort, including how many similar studies it funded and at what cost, as well as the later AAITP, still remains unclear. So far, two videos the latter iteration of the group examined in detail have captured the most public attention through the media. F/A-18 Hornet Advanced Targeting Forward-Looking Infrared (ATFLIR) targeting pods shot both of these clips and they feature small „tic-tac“-like objects racing around at high speed over the water.
But the main video and pilot account wasn´t new when news of the existence of AAITP first broke. It had been floating around in defense circles for over a decade, but more open disclosure about the origin of the video on an official level, as well as subsequent interviews with the pilot that took it, certainly elevated it to mainstream news.
Beyond that, accounts of Bigelow´s special unit´s investigation include claims that mysterious material from downed objects was being stored in storage lockers and that the program went far beyond documenting and evaluating eyewitness reports of UFOs. Instead, it took a holistic approach, which may have included evaluating the impact on human biology in association with sightings and other unexplained events and even seemed to have delved into other paranormal domains.
This would seem to match up with the picture of the program´s work we now have based on the documents Knapp´s I-Team obtained. What we know for sure, beyond the basic facts surrounding the project and information that Elizondo, the guy who led the program on the DoD side, has given to the press, is that some very strange studies resulted from its mandate. Once again, the studies Las Vegas´ Channel 8 uncovered are official DIA documents that the United States Government paid EarthTech and other Bigelow associates to produce and kept on file for its own internal use.
If nothing else, the existence of these studies supports the perception that this program went far beyond just trying to interpret and document eye-witness accounts of UFOs and trying to identify what was buzzing around in earth´s atmosphere. And they are bound to leave just about anyone wondering if this is what has been released, imagine what else exists that hasn´t…“
