    Am Samstag will die Bundeswehr ihren ersten neuen Spionagesatelliten der SARah-Baureihe ins All schießen. Der live zu beobachtende Start erfolgt von der Raketenbasis Vandenberg in Kalifornien und ist nach deutscher Zeit für 15:30 Uhr anvisiert.

    Der rund vier Tonnen schwere Satellit wird mit einer zweistufigen Falcon 9 von Elon Musks Firma SpaceX ins All transportiert. Die Trägerrakete ist teilweise wiederverwendbar.

    Zuständig für die Entwicklung der SARah-Satelliten ist die Firma OHB System in Bremen, die hierzu im Jahr 2013 vom Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr beauftragt wurde. Die Fertigung des SARah-1 erfolgte im Unterauftrag durch Airbus in Friedrichshafen.
    Drei Satelliten und zwei Bodenstationen

    Das gesamte Aufklärungssystem besteht aus drei Satelliten und einem Bodensegment aus zwei Bodenstationen. Es soll das seit 2008 vom Militär genutzte SAR-Lupe-System ablösen, das Gegenstände ab einer Größe von 50 Zentimetern darstellen kann. Die beiden folgenden Satelliten werden von OHB als ausschließlichem Hauptauftragnehmer gebaut.“

Die Technik kommt bereits in den von Airbus gebauten Erdbeobachtungssatelliten TerraSAR, TanDEM-X und PAZ zum Einsatz. Das Bildmaterial wird dabei „in Rekordzeit“ geliefert.
    800 Millionen Euro für SARah-Programm

    Inzwischen ist SARah-1 in die Vereinigten Staaten transportiert worden und wird dort für den Start vorbereitet. Die Inbetriebnahme des Satelliten wird aus dem Kontrollzentrum von Airbus in Friedrichshafen betreut. Die Kalibrierung und der Betrieb erfolgen anschließend aus dem Kontrollzentrum der Bundeswehr.

    Insgesamt hat der Bundestag für das SARah-Programm rund 800 Millionen Euro bewilligt. Dass das System mit SpaceX und nicht etwa mit deutsch-französischen Ariane-Raketen gestartet wird, sorgt für Kritik.“
