Chronic Lyme disease is one of the most difficult diseases to treat, partially due to the lack of effective diagnostic methods, and because of its ability to mimic other diseases. Lyme disease is known as the “great imitator” because its symptoms resemble over 300+ different and more well-known diseases. Some of these symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, poor sleep, muscle skeletal pain, muscle stiffness, mood problems, depression, anxiety, loss of concentration, short term memory loss, and many more. With such a large number of symptoms, it’s no wonder Chronic Lyme can often go undiagnosed, or even more commonly, misdiagnosed as other diseases. To help better understand the difficulty of differentiating Lyme disease from other diseases we have included a chart from a recent published study in the Medical Microbiology publication which shows the similarity of symptoms between Lyme disease and other commonly misdiagnosed diseases.

How Lyme Disease is Transmitted
Lyme disease is most commonly transmitted by the bite of a blacklegged tick. This type of tick is most common in the north-eastern areas of the United States, but it is important to know that Lyme disease has spread to 49 states (excluding Hawaii) and is becoming an international epidemic. Blacklegged ticks are the primary transmission method for Lyme disease but the ticks also carry other tick-borne infections. These infections decrease host immunity and allow secondary co-infections known as opportunistic infections to wreak havoc on the patient’s body when Lyme disease is present. These tick-borne and secondary co-infections can most commonly include Babesia, Ehrlichia, Cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr, Bartonella, and HHV-6 among others.

Lyme Disease Diagnosis Difficulties

When it comes to diagnosing Lyme there is only one truly accurate tell-tale sign and that is the appearance of a bullseye rash.
While this symptom is a dead-giveaway, not all Lyme disease patients develop the rash, in fact about 50% of Lyme disease sufferers never develop, nor have any recollection of a rash ever being present.
Lyme disease is caused by the bacteria Borrelia Burgdorferi. Borrelia is a spirochete, a cousin of the syphilis family of diseases. The bacteria’s unique corkscrew like shape gives it special properties which can help it evade the body’s immune system and often times antibiotic treatments.
Lyme Disease Treatment
For the treatment of Lyme disease, early detection is key. If the disease is detected early enough a course of antibiotics can usually take care of the disease. It is when the disease has gone undiagnosed or becomes multi-drug resistant that the symptoms of Lyme persist, become chronic and exacerbated and incredibly difficult to treat.
When Lyme disease has gone undiagnosed and/or is not properly treated early enough the condition becomes what is known clinically as Chronic Lyme Disease Complex to Lyme literate physicians. This complex of Lyme disease and its many co-infections can be very difficult to treat but it is important to seek out proper diagnosis before pursuing treatment.
Lyme Disease Testing
The most common Lyme disease tests are the Western Blot and Elisa test. While these standardized tests are considered the correct way to diagnose Lyme disease, they can often produce false-negative results. These tests rely on the body’s immune status and the production of antibodies to detect the disease. Because Lyme disease is so evasive often times the immune system isn’t producing these antibodies to allow for proper diagnosis.
This is why patients who suspect they may have Lyme disease need to seek out specialty labs for a more accurate diagnosis. One such specialty lab is IGeneX. IGeneX looks at samples of the patient’s blood under a microscope. This inspection allows them to visualize and identify “bands of” the spirochetes involved with Lyme disease. IGeneX also runs a separate co-infection panel to help diagnose the other infections that can be present with Lyme disease. It is important to mention that this test is only a starting point. There is a number of specialized tests and labs that must be ran to aid in proper and complete diagnosis to create a full medical blue print for Lyme disease and all the co-infections that can be present.

Researchers in Mexico have found a cave which is home to stones that have bas-relief images on them that show aliens along with spacecraft.
Researchers began looking for mysterious hidden caves between Puebla and Veracruz in Mexico after hearing about legends that said aliens had visited Earth in ancient times and the people from the cities had captured their encounters by carving bas-reliefs onto the stone. It was said that the stones were in a cave system made up of three caves.

Gestern haben rund 70 Musikerinnen und Musiker, Sängerinnen und Sänger mit klassischer Musik vor der Zentrale des Bundesamts für Verfassungsschutz (BfV) in Köln protestiert.

Der Konzertprotest der Gruppe „Lebenslaute“ stand unter dem Motto „Mit Suite und Kantate gegen den Staat im Staate – Geheimdienste abschalten!“. Sie blockierte den Haupteingang und die vier Nebeneingänge des Komplexes, in dem der Großteil der 3100 Geheimdienst-Beschäftigten arbeitet.
Bereits um 5:15 Uhr hatten die Musiker und Sänger alle Zufahrten und Zugänge blockiert und mit ihrer Konzertmusik begonnen. Verfassungsschutzmitarbeiter – und später auch Lieferanten – konnten nicht wie gewohnt auf das Gelände der Inland-Geheimdienst-Zentrale gelangen. Die vor den Toren wartenden Geheimdienstler wurden von den Lebenslaute-Mitgliedern angesprochen und bekamen speziell für sie erstellte Flyer.
Bereits eine Viertelstunde später erschienen die ersten Polizeifahrzeuge, um die Blockade zunächst zu beobachten.
Um halb sieben begann die Polizei mit der Räumung der ersten Blockade. Laut „Lebenslaute“ waren die Polizisten nicht zimperlich.

Doch auch die neuesten Absprachen zwischen Hans-Georg Maaßen, dem Präsidenten des BfV, und der AfD-Führung, werden genannt. Albert Müller, ein Sprecher der Gruppe, sagte der WSWS: „Unsere Einschätzung ist, dass dies zeigt, dass es Prozesse gibt, in denen der Verfassungsschutz seine Beobachtungstätigkeit überschreitet und aktiv und zugleich verdeckt politisch eingreift.“ Durch das Buch Inside AfD einer ehemaligen Mitarbeiterin Frauke Petrys stehe im Raum, „dass der Verfassungsschutz die AfD berät“.
Die Gruppe „Lebenslaute“ fordert daher neben der Abschaltung des Verfassungsschutzes und aller Geheimdienste auch den Schutz von Whistleblowern und die Verteidigung und den Ausbau demokratischer Rechte. „Schluss mit den Unterdrückungs- und Überwachungsstrukturen!“, heißt es in ihrem Statement.
Die Gruppe existiert inzwischen über 30 Jahre. Seit 1986 versammeln sich ihre insgesamt rund 300 Mitglieder regional und einmal im Jahr jeweils im Sommer bundesweit, um mit ihren Konzerten auf „Militärübungsplätzen und Abschiebeflughäfen, vor Atomfabriken und Raketendepots, in Ausländerbehörden und an anderen menschenbedrohenden Orten“ zu protestieren. 2014 hat „Lebenslaute“ gemeinsam mit der US-amerikanische feministischen Anti-Kriegs-Gruppe „Code Pink“ den Aachener Friedenspreis erhalten, der jährlich am 1. September, dem Antikriegstag, überreicht wird…

„Der ‚Verfassungsschutz‘ hat Neonazi-Szenen und -Parteien über seine bezahlten Spitzel letztlich mitfinanziert, rassistisch geprägt, gegen polizeiliche Ermittlungen geschützt und gestärkt.“
Die WSWS und die Sozialistische Gleichheitspartei (SGP) unterstützen Proteste, die die Auflösung der Verfassungsschutzämter und aller Geheimdienste fordern. In einer Erklärung der SGP, in der sie angesichts ihrer Nennung im aktuellen Verfassungsschutzbericht zu ihrer Verteidigung aufruft, weist die SGP darauf hin, dass der Verfassungsschutz eine Schlüsselrolle in der rechten Verschwörung der Berliner Parteien und des Staates einnimmt, die sich gegen die wachsende Opposition unter Jugendlichen und Arbeitern gegen Militarismus, Rassismus und soziale Ungleichheit richtet.
Während die AfD im Verfassungsschutzbericht in der Rubrik „Rechtsextremismus“ nicht genannt wird, kommt sie gleich mehrmals in der Rubrik „Linksextremismus“ vor – als Opfer angeblicher „Linksextremisten“. Als solche gelten aber alle, die gegen die AfD und gegen Rechtsextremismus protestieren.
„Die allgemeine Einleitung zum Kapitel ‚Linksextremismus‘ macht deutlich“ heißt es in der Erklärung, „dass es dem Verfassungsschutz darum geht, jede sozialistische Kritik am Kapitalismus und seinen gesellschaftlichen Folgen zu unterdrücken.“
Die „ideologische Grundlage“ von „Linksextremisten“, schreibt der Geheimdienst, „ist die Ablehnung des ‚kapitalistischen Systems als Ganzes‘, denn der ‚Kapitalismus‘ ist für Linksextremisten mehr als nur eine Wirtschaftsform: Er gilt sowohl als Basis als auch als Garant der ‚bürgerlichen Herrschaftsverhältnisse‘ durch ‚Repression‘ nach innen und ‚Aggression‘ nach außen. Der ‚Kapitalismus‘ ist demnach verantwortlich für alle gesellschaftlichen und politischen Missstände wie soziale Ungerechtigkeit, ‚Zerstörung‘ von Wohnraum, Kriege, Rechtsextremismus und Rassismus sowie für Umweltkatastrophen.“ Laut Verfassungsschutz ist eine solche Kritik am Kapitalismus, die Millionen Menschen teilen, ein Angriff auf „unsere Staats- und Gesellschaftsordnung und damit die freiheitliche Demokratie“.
Am heutigen Dienstagmorgen ab 10 Uhr spielen die Lebenslaut-Musiker und -Musikerinnen erneut vor den Toren des Bundesamtes in Köln. Die WSWS wird berichten.

Die amerikanische Firma Laser Power Systems (LPS) aus Connecticut entwickelt eine neue Antriebsmethode für Fahrzeuge unter Verwendung eines der dichtesten Materialien der Natur: Thorium. Dies geht aus einem Bericht von Industry Tap hervor. Die Firma experimentiert mit kleinen Thorium-Blocks. Die abgegebene Hitze des Materials wird für einen Laser genutzt, der Wasser erhitzt und mit dem Wasserdampf eine Mini-Turbine versorgt. Die Turbine erzeugt wiederum den elektrischen Strom, mit dem das Fahrzeug angetrieben wird. Der Antrieb erzeugt dabei keinerlei Schadstoff-Emissionen.
Thorium – die vergessene Alternative
Flüssigfluorid-Thorium-Reaktoren: Was zuerst arg chemisch und gefährlich klingt, ist in Wirklichkeit ein revolutionäres Reaktorkonzept, das ich im Folgenden etwas genauer vorstellen möchte. Thorium-Reaktoren verwenden als Brennstoff nicht Uran, sondern Thorium. Dieses Element ist in der Erdkruste rund drei Mal häufiger als Uran, so dass auch bei einem flächendeckenden, weltweiten Einsatz die Vorräte für Jahrhunderte gesichert wären. Zudem ist es in der natürlich vorkommenden Form praktisch nicht radioaktiv (im Gegensatz zum Uran, das in den natürlich vorkommenden Erzen wie Pechblende radioaktiv ist), die Halbwertszeit des einzigen, natürlich vorkommenden Isotops Thorium-232 beträgt über 14 Milliarden Jahre. Um dieses Isotop des Thoriums überhaupt erst spaltbar zu machen, muss es mit Neutronen beschossen werden – dann wandelt es sich in Thorium-233 um, das wiederum in wenigen Minuten zu Proactinium-233 zerfällt. Dieses muss nun von einem weiteren Neutroneneinfang geschützt werden, so dass es – in rund 27 Tagen – zu Uran-233 zerfallen kann.
Uran-233 wiederum ist ein hervorragender Kernreaktor-Brennstoff, mit dem sich eine Kettenreaktion aufrecht erhalten lässt: unter Neutronenaufnahme setzt Uran-233 weitere Neutronen frei, die weiteres Uran-233 zur Spaltung anregen – und nebenbei weiteres Thorium-232 zu Thorium-233 umwandeln, womit sich der Kreislauf schliesst. Die Spaltprodukte von Uran-233 sind wesentlich kurzlebiger: Der radioaktive Abfall würde bereits nach rund 300 Jahren nicht mehr gefährlich strahlen. Längerlebige radioaktive Nuklide werden nur in sehr geringen Mengen produziert. Zudem ist die totale Menge an radioaktiven Abfällen pro nutzbare Energie um etwa den Faktor 1000 kleiner. Dies liegt vor allem daran, weil rund 98% des Brennstoffs auch tatsächlich verbrannt wird, im Gegensatz zu Uran-Brennstoffen, wo die Brennstäbe nach rund 2-5% Verbrennung (je nach dem, ob aufbereitet wird oder nicht) als Abfälle entsorgt werden müssen.
Warum wurde nicht schon früher auf Thorium gesetzt?
Das Positive ist, dass diverse Länder wie Norwegen, China und Indien endlich damit anfangen Thorium-Reaktoren zu bauen. Die Technologie wurde in den USA bereits in den 60er Jahren erforscht. Da sie aber keinen Plutoniumabfall produziert, wurde sie sehr rasch wieder fallen gelassen. Der militärisch-industrielle Komplex, der mitunter auch den Energiemarkt kontrolliert, brauchte das Plutonium um seine A-Bomben zu bauen. Aus diesem Grund wurde das hocheffiziente und umweltfreundliche Thorium zu Gunsten des Urans fallengelassen. Traurig aber wahr …
Thorium ist darüber hinaus ziemlich günstig. Um den ganzen Strom aus den Schweizer Kernkraftwerken durch Thorium-Reaktoren zu ersetzen, wären pro Jahr etwa drei Tonnen Thorium nötig. Bei einem Weltmarktpreis von 60 Dollar pro Kilogramm könnte damit mit rund 200’000 Franken die Schweiz für ein Jahr versorgt werden. Uran ist im Gegensatz dazu rund fünf mal teurer (zudem braucht die Erzeugung der gleichen Menge Strom mehr Uran, wegen der geringeren Umwandlungseffizienz), Tendenz steigend.
Fazit: Thorium ist im Gegensatz zu Uran sehr sauber, effizient und billig. Es ist zu gut um in unserem System marktfähig zu werden. Dennoch argumentieren immer noch viele Menschen damit, dass wir Fortschritt und Wohlstand unserem System verdanken würden. Dieses naive Argument wird am Beispiel des Thoriums widerlegt. Unser System ist weder an den Menschen noch an deren Komfort und Wohlstand interessiert. In einem anderen System, wie der ressource-based Economy, gäbe es kein Welthungerproblem und sehr wahrscheinlich auch keine Ressourcenkriege.
In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich auch noch darauf hinweisen, dass es noch andere hocheffiziente und saubere Energiequellen gibt, die uns von der „Elite“ bis heute vorenthalten werden. Knappheit und Mangel werden künstlich erzeugt, um uns auf „Trab“ zu halten.“
