    A deadly heat wave has sent temperatures above 120 degrees in northern India, triggering heat stroke and warnings of water shortages, as the country experiences its second-driest pre-monsoon spell in 65 years.
    The Rajasthan desert city of Churu recorded a high of 123.4 degrees Fahrenheit (50.8 degrees Celsius) Saturday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), as reported by the Times of India. It was the highest temperature on record for Rajasthan state, where many locations topped 115 degrees over the weekend.
    Three years ago, on May 19, 2016, Phalodi in Rajasthan was the site of India’s record-hottest temperature of 123.8 degrees Fahrenheit (51 degrees Celsius).
    Extreme heat could persist through much of this week across Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh states, the IMD said.
    Forecast Highs Tuesday-Thursday
    Heat stroke has already resulted in several deaths across northern India, Phys.org reported.
    A red alert severe heat wave warning, the highest warning level, has been posted by the IMD for several northern Indian states. This means the severe heat wave is likely to persist for more than two days, and the total number of heat wave or severe heat wave days is likely to exceed six days.
    The IMD says all age groups have a very high likelihood of developing heat illness and heat stroke and suggests extreme care is needed for vulnerable people.
    Rivers and lakes in the region have begun to dry up, raising concerns of water shortages in several major cities, including Chennai, according to Phys.org. Some people stopped washing their clothes in order to conserve water during this shortage.
    It’s not just the heat at fault. The annual South Asia monsoon, which typically restores India’s water supplies by bringing much-needed rain to the country each summer, is off to a near-record slow start.
    India is experiencing its second-driest pre-monsoon spell since 1954, the Times of India reported. The three-month period from March through May makes up the pre-monsoon season.

    Only 3.90 inches (99.0 millimeters) of pre-monsoon rain was recorded in India this year. Since 1954, the only drier pre-monsoon season was 2012, when just 3.56 inches (90.5 millimeters) of rain fell between March and May, according to the Times. 2009 matched this year’s total of 3.90 inches.
    In 1954, the pre-monsoon total from March through May was just 3.70 inches (93.9 millimeters).“
    „Pre-monsoon rains tend to allay some of the severe water shortage problem in a region,“ Pulak Guhathakurta, head of Climate Application and User Interface at the IMD’s Office of Climate Research Services, told the Times. „Even deficient pre-monsoon rainfall can go a long way in maintaining the soil moisture necessary for agriculture.“

    In 1963 IBM was told by federal regulators that it could not market its new computer to citizens because it was a dangerous weapon through which disinformation could be used to subdue entire populations.
    A couple of decades of deregulation later, IBM was finally allowed to sell its weapons system to the world. By 1993 the National Security Agency (NSA) had installed a backdoor chip into these computer weapons, giving them a monopoly over the encryption process. Those involved in this effort included John Podesta, Larry Summers, James Comey, Robert Mueller, Rod Rosenstein, and George Bush Sr. via the Carlyle Group.

    Wenn man sich die Kommentare zum gestrigen Artikel: “Angela Merkel’s Ganz-Körper-Zittern: Was ist die Ursache des mysteriösen Zitter-Anfalls?“ durchliest, stellt man schnell fest, dass Merkel schon lange der Respekt im Volke fehlt… und da habe ich mich jetzt zurückhaltend geäußert. Nicht so zurückhaltend ist der folgende Kommentar, den ich auf Facebook fand:

    Inside the U.S.-Iran Drone War
    The Pentagon’s decision to deploy the rare BAMS-D underscores the military’s urgency amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. Prior to the shoot-down, the Navy possessed just four copies of the BAMS-D, which is a naval variant of the RQ-4 Global Hawk that Northrop Grumman builds for the Air Force.
    A single Global Hawk sells for more than $200 million, counting the cost of its sensors. Operators control the drone from work stations on the ground, beaming commands via satellite to the pilotless aircraft.
    The Pentagon began developing the Global Hawk and its variants back in the ’90s, hoping to replace Cold War-vintage U-2 spy planes. The idea was that a drone, with no pilot aboard, could stay aloft longer and fly riskier missions than a U-2 could do.
    The Global Hawk and its variants can circle at up to 65,000 feet for as many as 30 hours while simultaneously carrying a camera, an infrared sensor, and a radar that can track moving targets.
    In the end, the Air Force decided to keep the U-2 and build up a force of dozens of RQ-4s. The giant drones with the 131-feet wingspan have flown over Iraq and Afghanistan.     United States Beekeepers lost over 40% of colonies during the last year, with the survey showing an increasing number in a winter die-off of honeybees.
    The troubling results indicate beekeepers lost 40.7% of their honey bee colonies from April 2018 to April 2019.
    The latest annual nationwide survey is conducted by the University of Maryland-led nonprofit Bee Informed Partnership.
    Winter losses were at 37.7%, which is the highest winter loss reported since the survey began 13 years ago.
    Honeybees pollinate $15 billion worth of food crops in the United States each year, so their health is critical to food production and supply.
    “These results are very concerning, as high winter losses hit an industry already suffering from a decade of high winter losses,” says Dennis van Engelsdorp, associate professor of entomology at the University of Maryland and president for the Bee Informed Partnership.
    The University of Maryland is working to save the state’s dying bees but needs your help.
    There are several things killing honeybees like pesticides and use of land that lacks nutrition-rich pollen sources, which causes poor nutrition for honeybees. “The number one message we have for beekeepers is they need to monitor and control mites,” said vanEngelsdorp.
    Varroa mites, lethal parasites are the number one killer. The mites spread easily from colony to colony.
    The mites feed off the bees and in the process pass on viruses that are killing honeybees.

Beekeepers need to be much more vigilant and monitor mites.     Es galt lange Zeit als ungefährliche Alternative zum Röntgen, weil Tumoren oder Entzündungen ohne Strahlungen erkannt werden können. Doch jetzt warnen Ärzte vor der Magnetresonanztomographie (MRT) mit Kontrastmitteln.
    Denn bestimmte Bestandteile des gespritzten Mittels lagern sich im Gehirn ab. Die amerikanische Arzneibehörde Food and Drug Administration (FDA) berichtet, dass sich im Hirngewebe von Patienten Reste des Metalls Gadolinium fanden, die zuvor vier oder mehr Kontrast-MRTs bekommen hatten.
    Ob die Ablagerungen schädlich sind, ist noch unklar. Deutsche Nuklearmediziner raten nun dazu, ein Kontrast-MRT nur noch anzuwenden, wenn es sich überhaupt nicht vermeiden lässt. „Ärzte sollten vorsichtiger damit umgehen“, sagt Detlef Moka, Vorsitzender des Berufsverbandes Deutscher Nuklearmediziner. Vor allem von Mehrfachuntersuchungen mit einem Kontrastmittel rät er ab. „Das Risiko steigt mit der Zahl der Untersuchungen“, sagte Moka.
    Das MRT, auch Kernspintomografie genannt, ist eines der häufigsten radiologischen Verfahren und wird in Deutschland jährlich millionenfach eingesetzt. Mit seiner Hilfe lassen sich Schnittbilder des Körpers erzeugen, die dem Arzt ermöglichen, entzündliche Veränderungen im Körper oder Tumoren gut zu erkennen.
    Hochgiftige Substanz
    Der Patient bekommt dafür in der Regel eine Spritze mit einem Mittel, das in den meisten Fällen auch das Seltenerd-Metall Gadolinium enthält. Es gelangt vom Blut in das Gewebe und sorgt dafür, dass die Organe sichtbar werden. Um das hochgiftige Mittel überhaupt durch den Körper schleusen zu können, wird es chemisch an eine ungiftige Trägersubstanz gebunden.
    Doch genau daran bleibt es offenbar nicht haften. Wie sich jetzt zeigte, kann sich Gadolinium von seiner Trägersubstanz lösen und dann über die Blutbahn bis in das Gehirn gelangen. Schon bei mehr als vier Untersuchungen, bei denen das Kontrastmittel mit dem Metall gespritzt wurde, zeigten sich „relevante Anreicherungen“ in verschiedenen Nervenbahnen, berichtet der Nuklearmediziner. „Man muss davon ausgehen, dass es dort auch bleibt“, warnt Moka. Es sei nicht ausgeschlossen, dass die Ablagerungen neurodegenerative Erkrankungen wie Alzheimer oder Demenz auslösen können.
    Laut Deutscher Krankenhausgesellschaft wurden im Jahr 2013 fast 42 Prozent der MRT-Aufnahmen in Krankenhäusern mit Kontrastmitteln gemacht. Das ergebe sich aus den öffentlich zugänglichen Qualitätsberichten der Kliniken. Ambulant vorgenommene MRT-Aufnahmen werden damit nicht erfasst.
    Mit Kontrastmittel werden Gewebe abgegrenzt
    Das Kontrastmittel hilft vor allem, sehr ähnliche Gewebe wie Blutgefäße und Muskeln voneinander abzugrenzen. Bereiche mit Kontrastmitteln werden heller dargestellt. Doch grundsätzlich ist ein MRT auch ohne ein solches Mittel möglich. So zeigt eine Studie der Stanford-Universität, dass die Erkennung von Tumoren bei Kindern und Jugendlichen mit und ohne Kontrastmittel genauso gut funktioniert.
    Die Forscher nahmen bei 123 jungen Patienten mit Metastasen in Leber, Knochenmark oder Lymphknoten eine Kernspintomografie vor. Krebsgewebe lässt sich im MRT erkennen, weil es sich auf den Schnittbildern von gesundem Gewebe unterscheidet. Das Ergebnis überraschte die Wissenschaftler. Die Bildqualität bei einem MRT mit Kontrastmittel war nicht deutlich besser als ohne. „Die diagnostische Genauigkeit unterschied sich nicht signifikant“, sagt die Radiologin und Mitautorin Heike Daldrup-Link. Auch ohne Kontrastmittel sei die Qualität „überraschend genau“.
    Kontrast-MRT vermeiden
    Auch Nuklearmediziner Moka rät dazu, es bei Kindern und Jugendlichen erst mal nicht anzuwenden. Zumindest so lange, bis man verstanden hat, was genau mit den Ablagerungen im Gehirn passiert. Noch ist nicht geklärt, welche chemischen Varianten von Gadolinium im Gehirn verbleiben.
    Seit längerer Zeit ist bekannt, dass es sich bei Menschen mit Nierenschwäche in Knochen, Haut und Gewebe ablagern kann. Sie dürfen es nicht bekommen, weil sonst eine schwere Bindegewebserkrankung droht, die sogenannte nephrogene systemische Fibrose.
    Der Mediziner rät dazu, möglichst auf Verfahren ohne Kontrastmittel zu setzen. Und gerade im orthopädischen Bereich sei es häufig sogar unnötig. Um einen Bandscheibenvorfall oder Gelenkbeschwerden zu diagnostizieren, reicht auch ein einfaches MRT.
    Das Herz lässt sich statt durch MRT auch mit Ultraschall, Elektrokardiografie (EKG) oder Myokardszintigrafie untersuchen, bei der die Herzmuskeldurchblutung beurteilt wird.“
