    is about is what John and I like to call vertical knowledge, it’s that thing that everybody knows. We just all repeat it
    and it may not be correct and the vertical knowledge in this instance is that the world’s population according to
    the UN is going to get to 11 point 2 billion people by the year 2100. I think John and I make a pretty convincing
    argument in the in the book that this is never going to happen, we will probably get somewhere between 8 and 9 billion people, you might argue that that’s already too many people, but it’s certainly not 11 billion people probably
    around mid-century and then the human population is going to start to decline and it’s not going to stop and the
    reason is because we’ve stopped having kids. We’ll get into a cup in a couple of minutes why that is that we stopped
    having kids, but to have a replacing population you need to have at least 2.1 children born for each woman in a
    country, so that means that you need a little for yourself, someone to replace you, someone to replace your partner and
    a little bit extra for those who won’t or can’t have kids.
    Canada right now has a birth rate of about 1.6, China has a birth rate of 1.5 and India has a birth rate of 2.1, they’re now at replacement level by the way 36 percent of the world’s population lives in two countries China in India
    and if they’re not having kids there aren’t any other places that are going to have enough kids to replace them so
    this is going to put us in a position by the time we get to mid-century in which the population as I said is going to
    peak somewhere between 8 and 9 billion and then start to decline and how far the decline will go will only can depend
    on the number of children that we decide to have in fact most of the population growth that’s taking place in the world
    today is coming as a result not of people being born and arriving in our population but people living longer and
    not leaving and the problem and the problem of course when you have a lot of people hanging around for a long time is
    that they’re not in the particularly fertile production years of their lives in the sense that they’re not having kids so we’re reaching this point in human history in which the first time in any time that human beings have existed on the face of the earth and at a global level that we’re actually deciding, deciding to have a smaller population…countries like Brazil, the 5th largest country in the world is at 1.8.“

    across every religion in the world believes that women should be subordinate to men and that women should you know have lots of children and stay at home and look after the family, it’s remarkable how many religions believe this, it would be accepted all major religions are dominated by men but one
    and and in the rural environment religion is powerful but once you move into the city the power of religion begins to decline….well the Philippines is urbanizing and by the way it’s fertility rate is crashing at them same time..Clan ceased to be important..when you’re living in the village
    environment that big extended family places a tremendous pressure on you to get married, to settle down, to have kids
    to do all those things when you move to the city the power of the clan is replaced by coworkers they’re the ones
    you spend most of your time with when was the last time one of your co-workers urged you to have a baby, so urbanization
    produces an economic disincentive to have children, it gives women power to make decisions about their bodies, it
    weakens the power of religion and it weakens the power of the clan and all of this leads to what we are seeing and what we described in the book which is rapidly falling fertility rates throughout those parts of the world
    where we would think in the UN still thinks you were going to continue to see high fertility rates.“

    population is going to start to decline, remember that the average of the median age of a person in China today is 37, back in 1950 the average Chinese person lived to the age of 42, by 2030 they’re going to live to the age of 80…but who is going to be the emerging demographic superpower when John
    mentioned geopolitics in all of this two countries number one is India. India has a very young population that is going to
    continue to grow for the foreseeable future, but even in India the population fertility rate is at a replacement
    level now so the young population will continue to increase the the Indian population but also increasing longevity
    in India will increase the Indian population so if India hasn’t already passed China in terms of population size
    today, it will in the next couple of years and through the course of the 21st century India is going to become the
    dominant, as Bbob was talking about,
    the dominant population power, but as India is growing, so is America. America’s birth rate is below two it’s about one
    point depend the estimates you look at 1.7 to 1.9…

    ORLANDO, Fla. — The discovery of intelligent aliens would be mind-blowing in many respects, but it could present a special dilemma for the world’s religions, theologians pondering interstellar travel concepts said Saturday (Oct. 1).
    Christians, in particular, might take the news hardest, because the Christian belief system does not easily allow for other intelligent beings in the universe, Christian thinkers said at the 100 Year Starship Symposium, a meeting sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to discuss issues surrounding traveling to other stars.
    In other words, „Did Jesus die for Klingons too?“ as philosophy professor Christian Weidemannof Germany’s Ruhr-University Bochum titled his talk at a panel on the philosophical and religious considerations of visiting other worlds.
    „According to Christianity, an historic event some 2,000 years ago was supposed to save the whole of creation,“ Weidemann said. „You can grasp the conflict.“
    Here’s how the debate goes: If the whole of creation includes 125 billion galaxies with hundreds of billions of stars in each, as astronomers think, then what if some of these stars have planets with advanced civilizations, too? Why would Jesus Christ have come to Earth, of all the inhabited planets in the universe, to save Earthlings and abandon the rest of God’s creatures?
    Aliens and religion can still coexist
    Weidemann, a self-described protestant Christian, suggested some possible solutions… However, the principle of mediocrity — the idea that your own example is most likely typical unless you have evidence to the contrary — casts doubt on this, he pointed out.
    „If there are extraterrestrial intelligent beings… „If so, did Jesus save them too? My position is no. If so, our position among intelligent beings in the universe would be very exceptional.“
    Another possibility is that God incarnated multiple times, sending a version of himself down to save each inhabited planet separately.
    However, based on the best guesses of how many civilizations we might expect to exist in the universe, and how long planets and civilizations are expected to survive, God’s incarnations would have had to be in about 250 places simultaneously at any given time, assuming each incarnation took about 30 years, Weidemann calculated.

    If God truly became corporeal and took human form when Jesus Christ was born, this wouldn’t have been possible, Weidemann said. …
    Rev. Thomas Hoffmann, a protestant pastor in Tulsa, Okla., said that the issues Weidemann raised were „really on target.“
    „If life is discovered elsewhere, unfortunately we need to have more discussion about it,“ Hoffmann said. „I think this is a very robust conversation we need to have.“
    While the discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence would likely spur profound soul-searching for people of all faiths, many of the world’s religions might have an easier time accommodating the knowledge than Christianity, said theologist Michael Waltemathe, also of the Ruhr-University Bochum.
    „It seems to be only a problem of Christianity,“ Waltemathe said.
    In Islam, for example, Muhammad was a prophet, or messenger of God, not God incarnate, so additional prophets could have simultaneously visited other planets to save extraterrestrial species, he said. And Hindus already believe in multiple deities, so accommodating more to guard over alien civilizations may not be difficult.
    Ultimately, though, the discovery of intelligent aliens isn’t likely to pose a serious crisis for Christianity, either, Hoffmann said. After all, the religion has survived challenging scientific revelations before.

    27. Februar 2020… The birds are ‘biological weapons,’ Chinese researcher said Pakistan is facing its worst locust outbreak in decades.
    Chinese duck platoons are waiting to be deployed to neighboring Pakistan to fight a swarm of crop-eating pests that threaten regional food security.
    At least 100,000 ducks are expected to be sent to Pakistan as early as the second half of this year to combat a desert locust outbreak, according to Lu Lizhi, a senior researcher with the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The ducks are “biological weapons” and can be more effective than pesticide, said Lu, who is in charge of the project in tandem with a university in Pakistan.

    “One duck is able to eat more than 200 locusts a day,” Lu said in a telephone interview on Thursday, citing results of experiments to test the ducks’ searching and predation capabilities.
    A trial will start in China’s western region of Xinjiang later this year before the ducks are sent to Pakistan, Lu said.

The pest plague, together with unseasonal rain and a scourge of low quality seeds, has hit major crops in Pakistan’s largest producing regions, weighing on its already fragile economy. And it has also migrated into India.

    It will be crucial for China, which shares a land border with Pakistan and India, to prevent an invasion. However, China does have some shield in the form of the Himalaya mountains that stand as a barrier between the Indian subcontinent and the Plateau of Tibet.
    A group of Chinese agricultural experts visited Pakistan this week to help control the locust outbreaks as the plague moves eastwards, according to a report posted on the website of China’s consulate-general in Karachi.
    In other unusual tactics, Pakistan’s government urged its citizens to eat locusts too. People should take advantage of the situation and barbecue locusts or make a curry, according to a local newspaper report.
    To gauge how serious a locust attack can be, look to Africa. The cost of fighting desert locusts in the continent’s east has doubled to $128 million, with more countries being affected each day, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization said. The situation remains extremely alarming in the Horn of Africa, while there has been a significant movement of swarms over the Arabian Peninsula that reached both sides of the Persian Gulf, the FAO said in its latest locust watch report.“
