Er liege im Koma und werde beatmet, twitterte seine Sprecherin Kira Jarmysch am Donnerstag. Er sei während eines Fluges von Tomsk in Sibirien nach Moskau zusammengebrochen, nach einer Notlandung in Omsk sei er ins Krankenhaus gekommen. An Bord habe er geschwitzt und darum gebeten, sie möge mit ihm reden, damit er sich «auf den Klang einer Stimme konzentrieren» könne, sagte sie im Radio Echo Moskwy. Dann sei er in die Toilette gegangen und habe das Bewusstsein verloren.
    Wie viele andere Oppositionspolitiker ist Nawalny regelmäßig von den Strafverfolgungsbehörden festgenommen worden und wird von Pro-Kreml-Gruppen bedroht. Vor drei Jahren schütteten ihm mehrere Männer Desinfektionsmittel ins Gesicht, was ein Auge verletzte.
    Wahrscheinlich habe der Politiker am Morgen eine Substanz über Tee aufgenommen, den er in einem Café am Flughafen getrunken habe. «Die Ärzte sagen, das Gift wurde schneller mit heißer Flüssigkeit aufgenommen», twitterte Jarmysch. Die staatliche Nachrichtenagentur Tass meldete, die Polizei gehe nicht von einer absichtlichen Vergiftung aus. Es sei nicht unwahrscheinlich, dass er am Vortag selbst etwas getrunken oder eingenommen habe, zitierte Tass eine anonyme Quelle der Strafverfolgung.
    Jarmysch reagierte sarkastisch: «Natürlich. Es ist nur der Tee, der schlecht war. Das ist, was die Staatspropaganda jetzt macht – sie rufen, es habe keine absichtliche Vergiftung gegeben, er habe sich aus Versehen selbst etwas angetan.»
    In Deutschland bot CDU-Generalsekretär Paul Ziemiak an, Nawalny medizinische Hilfe bereitzustellen. Dessen Arzt Jaroslaw Aschichmin sagte dem unabhängigen Medium Meduza, er versuche einen Transport in eine Klinik nach Hannover oder Straßburg in Frankreich zu bekommen.
    Der stellvertretende Chefarzt im Krankenhaus von Omsk, Anatoli Kalinitschenko, bezeichnete Nawalnys Zustand als ernst aber stabil. Die Ärzte würden eine Reihe von Diagnosen erwägen, darunter auch Vergiftung. Mehr sagte er nicht unter Verweis auf den Schutz der Rechte des Patienten.
    Andere Oppositionsfiguren gingen schnell von einer Verwicklung des Kremls aus. Nur russische Sicherheitskräfte mit Erlaubnis von der politischen Führung seien in der Lage, Personen wie Nawalny anzugreifen, sagte Pjotr Wersilow der Nachrichtenagentur AP. Das Mitglied der Protestgruppe Pussy Riot wurde nach einer mutmaßlichen Vergiftung 2018 in Berlin behandelt. «Wir glauben, dass (Präsident Wladimir) Putin definitiv eine Person ist, die in dieser Situation das „Go“ gibt.»
    Die Witwe des 2006 durch radioaktives Gift getöteten Alexander Litwinenko sagte der AP, vielleicht setzten die Russen jetzt auf eine «neue Taktik» gegen Nawalny. Möglicherweise habe man Nawalny nun nicht mehr nur durch eine Festnahme stoppen wollen, sondern über Gift, so Marina Litwinenko.
    Nawalny gilt als der prominenteste Kritiker von Präsident Wladimir Putin. Seine Stiftung hat immer wieder über Korruption bis in die höchsten Regierungskreise berichtet. Bei Wahlen unterstützt er Oppositionskandidaten. Ihm selbst haben die Behörden bei der Präsidentenwahl 2018 eine Kandidatur gegen Putin verwehrt. Nawalnys Stiftung musste im Juli Insolvenz anmelden, nachdem sie einen Prozess gegen den Unternehmer Jewgeni Prigoschin verloren hatte. Prigoschin hat gute Verbindungen zu Putin.
    Nach dem Angriff 2017 mit Desinfektionsmittel bekam Nawalny 2019 im Sommer in der Haft plötzlich Hautausschlag. Seine Anwältin führte dies damals auf eine «Vergiftung, durch irgendeine Art von chemischer Substanz» zurück. Ärzte sprachen von einem Allergieanfall, den Nawalny erlitten habe.
